Working on the interior I have acquired a CA Chassisworks steering column kit and Wilwood quick-release steering hub. I also ordered their gas/brake pedal kit, and a brake master cylinder to mount under the floor. After looking at many, many steering wheels, I finally decided on a Grant gr-414 steering wheel. Then, after a few phone calls, trying to find out if it would bolt up to my Wilwood quick-release steering hub (with no answers). I went ahead and ordered it, figuring if no-one makes an adapter, I'd make one. Even the sales people at Grant Products, couldn't tell me if it would bolt up. It will bolt up, if you drill out the holes to 5/16. (There I go again, getting a brand-new part and modifying it as soon as it arrives.) With the steering column hanging in the car, I adjusted it to where it was comfortable. Then I went out to my truck and measured where I have it's steering wheel adjusted to, and it's within a 1/2 inch of where the corvette's ended up. Then it was the typical measure and cut, until everything fit. As you can see to the left, we've finally started mocking up the little corvette. All of the extraneous parts have been removed, and we are ready to start building the frame. The kids can start practicing welding on some scrap, and they'll be on their way to having a corvette of their own. |
